Assessor's Office Publishes New Commercial Assessment Guide

The Cook County Assessor’s Office published a revised digital guide to its commercial valuation process, part of its continued commitment to making the property tax system fully transparent and accessible.

The guide was created in collaboration with Literacy Works, a nonprofit that helps organizations explain their work in plain language. This page offers a step-by-step guide to the Assessor’s Office commercial assessment process, as well as resources for business owners and others to understand assessments and appeals.

The Assessor’s Office hired a Director of Commercial Outreach in 2023 to bolster its engagement with business owners, chambers of commerce, and other stakeholders in the commercial assessment process. To support this investment in commercial outreach, the office has created new marketing materials and tools for business owners. 

The Assessor’s Office also continues to provide methodology worksheets that explain how the office’s analysts estimate the market value of income-producing properties for properties that are being reassessed. These reports are available at https://www.cookcountyassessoril.gov/valuation-reports.
